In the spring
of 2008 students from DTE arts education programs and partner programs
at Bailey's
Cafe/Paul Robeson High School and Hook Productions/NYC Parks
& Recreation participated in a series of weekend workshops at Dance
Theatre Etcetera's Red Hook space.
Under the guidance of independent filmmaker (and DTE board member) Trac Minh Vu, with Assistant Directors Robert Martin and Julia Rosenfeld from Dance Theatre Etcetera, the students received pre-professional training in acting for film and discussed their own experiences growing up in marginalized communities. Out of those workshops came Red Hook High, a television pilot from Fusion Pictures about teenagers living and growing up in Red Hook, Brooklyn. On July 16, DTE hosted a sneak-preview screening of the pilot, and soon after the show was selected for screening at the New York Television Festival's Independent Pilot Competition. At the Festival the pilot garnered attention from The New York Times, ABCNews, and a host of local New York media (click links to read feature articles). For
more information, to schedule screenings, or for copies of Red Hook
High, contact jon@dtetc.org
